Glory to God for all things!
— St. John Chrysostom's last words

Stewardship, tithing, offerings were all means in the Hebrew Scriptures for approaching God and thanking Him for his gifts. The Christian Scriptures did not change anything. Christ himself said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone." (Mt 23:23 emphasis added).

St. Paul, in asking for donations from the Philippians said to them, "Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account." (Phil 4:17).
